KWS Sows the Seeds of Digital Transformation with Adobe Document Cloud
The need for digital transformation is driving change in every industry. Companies are moving away from paper and adopting more digital workflows—becoming smarter and faster as they move information inside and outside the business. Agriculture is no exception. For a seed producer such as KWS SAAT SE, information and technology are just as crucial to the business as soil and water.
KWS may not be a household name, but its products end up on dinner plates around the world. The company is one of the largest producers of seeds for sugar beets, corn, wheat, rye, oilseeds, and other agricultural staples.
While staying true to its down-to-earth roots, KWS has spent the past 160-plus years innovating within agriculture. Now the company is focused on a digital transformation within its business operations, using Adobe Document Cloud as a key part of its strategy.
Modernizing agriculture from the field to the back office
KWS has operations in 70 countries, and it can be challenging to coordinate activities across internal teams and customers worldwide. To improve processes, the company standardized its document workflows on Adobe Acrobat Pro DC and Adobe Acrobat Sign. The Adobe tools are key to efficient, paperless processes as employees settle invoices, review legal contracts, draw up employment and confidentiality agreements, and more.
The integration of Adobe solutions with SAP means that KWS can keep documents moving through an uninterrupted digital workflow—so no paper is wasted, and nothing falls through the cracks. For example, employees use Adobe Acrobat Pro DC to scan physical invoices that arrive in the mail. The tool’s optical character recognition (OCR) technology makes the documents searchable within the company’s storage repository, and the whole process triggers an approval request in SAP.
KWS also uses Acrobat Sign for electronic signatures, so stakeholders can sign crucial documents, such as mutual confidentiality agreements, in the office or on the go. With no more printing, signing, and scanning, the company minimizes delays and moves forward faster.
Coming from one of the world’s largest seed producers, KWS’ digital transformation not only improves efficiency for the company, but it also helps advance the agricultural industry, supporting better products for farmers and contributing to a more stable global food supply.
