Adobe Experience Platform FAQs.

What is the difference between Adobe Experience Platform, Adobe Experience Cloud, and applications like Adobe Real-Time CDP?

Adobe Experience Platform is the foundation the others are built on. Experience Platform ingests, governs, and stitches your data into real-time customer profiles. The applications, such as Real-Time CDP, Adobe Journey Optimizer, and Adobe Customer Journey Analytics, are built directly on Experience Platform and share its data, identity, and governance; they are what you do with the profile. Adobe Experience Cloud is the broader portfolio of marketing, analytics, and commerce applications those apps belong to. In short, Experience Platform is the data layer the applications turn that data into outcomes, and Experience Cloud is the portfolio.

Is Adobe Experience Platform a customer data platform (CDP)?

Not on its own. Experience Platform is the open, enterprise data foundation that ingests, governs, and stitches data into real-time customer profiles. The CDP capability, collecting and unifying data and activating audiences to any destination, is delivered by Real-Time CDP, an application built on Experience Platform. So, if you are comparing Adobe against standalone CDPs, Real-Time CDP is the comparison point, and it inherits Experience Platform's identity resolution, governance, and AI rather than reinventing them.

What can I do with Experience Platform itself, and what needs an additional application?

Experience Platform provides the shared services that every application draws on:

  • Data ingestion from your sources through prebuilt connectors
  • Experience Data Model (XDM) schemas to standardize that data
  • Identity Service and Real-Time Customer Profile to unify it
  • Segmentation and audience building
  • Data governance, consent, and security controls
  • Query and data science tools for SQL access and custom models

Turning that data into outcomes is the job of the applications built on it: Real-Time CDP for audience activation, Journey Optimizer for orchestration and messaging, and Customer Journey Analytics for cross-channel analysis. You license the platform plus the applications that match your use cases, and several applications can also run on their own.

What is Adobe Experience Platform Agent Orchestrator, and is it separate from Experience Platform?

Agent Orchestrator is the agentic layer inside Adobe Experience Platform, not a separate platform. It powers customer experience orchestration by using the platform's data and customer knowledge through purpose-built agents, an advanced reasoning engine, and a conversational interface (AI Assistant). Because it is built natively on Experience Platform, the agents work from the same profiles, governance, and security you already have, and they respect your existing product-level access controls, so a user can only act on data they are already authorized to use. Adopting agents is optional and available through a licensed AI Credits model or a usage-bound trial, so existing customers can evaluate the value before committing rather than being required to change anything.

Does Experience Platform work with my existing data warehouse and non-Adobe tools?

Yes. Experience Platform is an open system with prebuilt source and destination connectors, so you can ingest data from warehouses, CRMs, and other systems and activate profiles and audiences to both Adobe and non-Adobe destinations. Its query and data-science tools let data teams work with platform data using SQL and bring their own models, and federated options let you use enterprise warehouse data without duplicating it. This is why Experience Platform fits alongside an existing stack rather than replacing it.
Governance is built into the platform, not bolted on. Data usage labels classify data as it is ingested, and the Consent Policy Enforcement Service checks each profile's consent before that data is used, for example before a profile is added to an exported audience or used in a given channel. Because these controls live at the platform layer, every application built on Experience Platform, and every agent in Agent Orchestrator, inherits the same governance and consent rules rather than enforcing its own.

How does Experience Platform work with Adobe Experience Manager?

Experience Manager uses the unified profiles and audiences built in Experience Platform to personalize content. In practice, you collect behavioral and known customer data into the platform, build audiences there, and Experience Manager delivers the matching experience to each visitor. Because the profile lives in Experience Platform, the same audience can also power messaging in Journey Optimizer or analysis in Customer Journey Analytics, and Agent Orchestrator can bring site-optimization agents to Experience Manager on top of that shared data.

What does implementing Experience Platform involve?

Implementation centers on modeling your data to Experience Data Model schemas, connecting your sources, configuring identities and merging policies to build the real-time profile, and setting governance rules. Typical teams pair a data engineer or architect with the marketing or analytics owners of the use case. Scope and timeline depend on how many sources and use cases you start with, and most programs begin with one or two high-value use cases and expand from there rather than boiling the ocean.
