Training is one of the best ways for companies to stay secure. For Newton, it’s also the key to product adoption, customer success, recurring revenue, and long-term business growth. Proofpoint constantly updates its software-as-a-service products with new features to keep customer data safe. But new capabilities are most powerful when people understand how to use them.
“If we can use training and education to empower customers to get the most from the products they’ve purchased, they’re more likely to realize the full value of those products and partner with us for the long term,” explains Newton.
To bring that philosophy to life, Proofpoint built its Cybersecurity Academy on Adobe Learning Manager. The platform delivers personalized learning experiences for customers, partners, prospects, and employees through a single learning ecosystem, transforming education from a support function into one of the company’s most important business strategies.
Turning education into recurring revenue.
Publishing new content quickly is easy with Adobe Learning Manager. Structured learning paths help customers, partners, employees, and prospects learn more about specific products, new features, or cybersecurity topics. Customers learn how to get the most out of their Proofpoint solutions, while partners and employees build the expertise needed to position products.
With so much content readily available, Proofpoint launched Guardian Pass, a subscription-based certification program that gives customers ongoing access to instructor-led and self-paced courses, certification exams, webinars, and exclusive community benefits.
After launching Guardian Pass, Proofpoint increased training revenue by 32% year-over-year. Within just two quarters, 75% of all training revenue came from recurring revenue, turning education into an important source of revenue.
More importantly, learners kept coming back. Enrollments grew roughly 30% year-over-year, and they’re projected to exceed 150,000 this year. Course completion rates for customers and partners consistently reach close to 60%, which Newton considers excellent for optional online learning.
These results reinforce Newton’s belief in the power of education to deliver tangible business value.
“It’s been exciting to see the recognition that training is a powerful pipeline building tool,” says Newton. “From attracting prospects to retaining customers, we’re directly contributing revenue with help from Adobe Learning Manager.”
One platform for every learning journey.
Proofpoint’s Cybersecurity Academy supports every audience from a single platform. Previously, the training team needed to maintain separate instances for each use case. Now tailored learning paths, certifications, and webinars all live on Adobe Learning Manager. Search and AI-powered recommendations guide customers, partners, employees, and prospects to just the right topic to answer their questions. Integrations with Salesforce and credentialing platforms like Credly turn education into a connected customer ecosystem.
For Stephanie Singh, who manages learning systems at Proofpoint, the biggest benefit is the ability to scale learning across customer and partner ecosystems while continually improving the learner experience. Dashboards give managers visibility into required-training completion, while analytics reveal which lessons resonate most, helping content creators focus on courses that keep learners engaged and coming back.
“Adobe Learning Manager has everything that we could need, from quizzes and certification badges that engage learners to really detailed reporting that helps us continue to improve,” says Singh. “We support every learning or enablement use case we have on one platform.”
The result is a connected education ecosystem that helps every audience find the right content while giving the business a clear understanding of how learning contributes to customer success.
Delivering knowledge across Proofpoint.
The next step for Proofpoint involves migrating to a headless configuration for their learning content. This will allow Proofpoint to use training materials across its ecosystem through APIs. A prospect researching email protection could watch a short training video embedded on the product page. An AI agent working with a customer to resolve an issue might pull up a clip from an online lesson or a certification quiz to help find a solution.
“We need a content repository that can hold all different kinds of content and share it with other applications almost in real time,” says Newton. “Adobe Learning Manager sets us up for the future.”
As Proofpoint continues building an intelligent, connected knowledge platform with Adobe Learning Manager, Newton and his team are proving that education is about more than training. It’s a vehicle that helps customers succeed, grow, and continue realizing value long after the initial purchase.
