Quality solutions for a global leader
What do the Elbphilharmonie concert hall in Hamburg, the Allianz Arena in Munich, the Statue of Liberty in New York City, and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. have in common? These landmarks and many more around the world use Viega piping systems to transport water for heating and water supply.
Based in the German town of Atterdown in the North Rhine-Wesphalia region, Viega Group specializes in the development and manufacture of high-quality piping systems for fire-fighting and fire-prevention systems, industrial gas supply, heating and drinking water systems, and bath and shower facilities, as well as wall-mounted and flushing systems for toilets. Quality Viega products are used in public and private buildings around the world. These systems are part of what makes modern life and work possible.
Founded in 1899, the family-owned company employs more than 4,300 people today. Over the years, Viega has expanded its services and it now leads the way in engineered system solutions and installation technology. The company shapes many new or upcoming developments worldwide. While the company is a highly regarded global market leader in the sanitary, heating, and air-conditioning industries, the company’s name is less well-known to the general public. As a manufacturer of products that can only be found behind the walls, Viega is a hidden leader that helps form the backbone of the German economy.
Viega is known for its high standards of quality for its products and services. “Our motto is ‘Viega: Connected in Quality’. We select the tools that we work with based on the same standards of quality and efficiency that we use in our own work. That’s why we enjoy working with a reliable partner such as Adobe,” explains Stefan Bicher, Head of IT Client Management at Viega.
“The ETLA is the most advantageous contract option for us because it covers the use of Adobe Acrobat in all offices worldwide.”

Facilitating digital teamwork in a paperless office
Adobe Acrobat DC, part of Adobe Document Cloud, is the solution of choice for handling digital document processes at Viega. “Adobe Acrobat Pro DC has proven to be very successful for us due to its high quality and smooth operability across all devices and platforms. That’s why Adobe Acrobat Pro DC has become an integral part of day-to-day operations at Viega as we increase use of digital processes,” says Bicher.
As part of an agreement with Adobe, all employees across Viega Group benefit from the latest version of Adobe Acrobat. Having all employees work on the same standard solution facilitates collaboration with teams in different locations.
Employees also benefit from the close integration between Adobe Creative Cloud for enterprise and Adobe Acrobat. Sales staff at any Viega office can use the assets created by the marketing team using Adobe Creative Cloud apps because the assets are shared worldwide as PDF files. Using powerful but intuitive editing capabilities, on-site sales representatives can tailor documents from the asset database to fit their customers’ needs.
Working with Adobe Acrobat Pro DC also makes it easy for people to fill out order forms from suppliers or government agencies on a computer without needing to print out the file. Because Acrobat also offers a mobile-friendly interface for smartphones and tablets, people can also process documents on the go, without needing to wait to find a desktop computer.
Right framework for a fast-growing business
Viega has used Adobe Acrobat for many years. Previously, the software was licensed in a decentralized manner. Viega decided to establish a solid framework for licensing through an Enterprise Term License Agreement (ETLA) for Adobe Acrobat.
The ETLA provides a simple and clear framework to manage the use of Adobe programs throughout the company, even across geographic borders. Due to its three-year term, the ETLA provides Viega with a high degree of planning predictability. If Viega needs more licenses, it can easily obtain them.
The new software licensing framework perfectly fits Viega’s needs even as the company grows dynamically in Germany and abroad. “The ETLA is the most advantageous contract option for us because it covers the use of Adobe Acrobat in all offices worldwide,” explains Bicher.
In addition, Bicher appreciates that the ETLA promotes centralized license management with very low administrative costs. Using the Adobe Admin Console, IT administrators can assign licenses to employees remotely with just a few clicks. Because everyone runs the same software and version, updates can be rolled out to all users at the same time. In addition, standardizing the software reduces the load on the IT service desk because they no longer need to support older versions.
Although Viega is a manufacturing company, it’s not just concerned about digital opportunities through automation and smart factories. Instead, the globally successful company sees digital transformation as a process that affects every area of the company. The ability to process PDF documents with Adobe Acrobat is one small but important step for Viega on its way to a paperless future.
